The Faculty of Medicine, East Africa University (EAU), was established in the 2008-9 academic year. The faculty provides blocked based MMBS programme. Before the current curriculum was finalized, a workshop was held to health and medical professionals in Bosaso. The recommendations of this workshop were incorporated into the programme structure.

Cooperation with WHO

WHO Country Representative, Dr. Marthe Everard , participated in the launching of the Faculty of Medicine at the Ministry of Health HQ at Garowe. The university project team met her at the Minister's office and formally delivered the message of the faculty assistance requirements in term of medical lab, textbook, journals and consultancy. In addition, WHO Chief Lab expert visited the university main campus in Bosaso and the issue of lab requirement and WHO assistance has been extensively explored.

Community support

Puntland community has welcomed the starting of the Faculty of Medicine. This has been shown at many occasions. Puntland Diaspora has also contributed books, computers and a bus for the faculty.

 

 

 

Apparent role of the Ministry

In 1991 the Faculty of Medicine of the Somali National University ceased to function after the collapse of the central government. Since that time, no doctors graduated locally and there is a dire to replace the aging doctors. read more...

Current status of Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Health Science.

At the moment we have got 106 Students, (70 in the 2 nd Semester and 36 in the 4 th Semester). Qualified medical professionals with mostly postgraduate degrees are working at the faculty and additional experts will be added in the next academic year 2009-10.

 

Planned Activites The university training hospital is now complete and properly equipped to offer students the opportunity of receiving the right training.

Affiliations The Faculty has affiliations with IIUM Medical School-Malaysia, University of Science and Technology Medical School , Yemen . It also benefited from the extensive EAU linkages with universities in Sudan , Egypt , Yemen , Malaysia , Kenya , etc
