East Africa University has already produced its first two groups (cohorts) of graduate students numbering 140 students. the graduation ceremony has been held on 18th December 2005 at the premises of the EAU main campus, the honorable guests of that night were, President of Puntland State of Somalia, Ministries of Puntland Government, UN Country Representative to Somalia, Arab League Ambassador to Somalia, Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia and many more dignitaries, this shows the developing image of the university.
Presently EAU is working with nearly 64 staff members out of which 36 are the academic staff, which is growing annually. The university specification for a teacher is a masters or PhD degree in his main field of concentration. Some of our teachers are PhD holders; some others are with dual master degrees, while all others are master degree holders. The university is currently holding a student body of nearly 600 in the current academic year September 2005-June 2006.
The university strengthened its relations with universities like Omdurman Islamic University ( Sudan ), Kuwait University ( Kuwait ), La Trobe University ( Australia ) and Deakin University ( Australia ). During the summer of 2005, the university fostered its linkages and signed letter of agreements with University of Technology of Yemen ; Al-azhar University of Egypt; the Center of Research and Higher degrees of Egypt ; and the Al-Nilain University of Sudan. EAU is now seeking affiliations to the Association of African Universities, Arab universities and universities of Islamic countries.
The university is planning to reach its distance education programs to students all around Somalia in different fields. The aim of distance learning program is to link to the local universities as well as the international universities. This will help the country to utilize the resources effectively. The new distance learning approach will be done in expectation to fortify the education programs being offered in Somalia with the cooperation of other universities, development organizations, Government and the society.
Since the university is a non-profit institution established by Puntland community and not directly financed by the State, there are number of bottleneck that cannot be attended without external assistance. We pray Allah to help us reach our noble target. |
